Description Golden Japanese forest grass makes a wonderful slow growing, semi-groundcover ornamental grass for both the sunny as well as shady garden. In shaded areas the bright yellow leaves add a nice touch of color for contrast with green foliage plants.

  Morphology:
The beautiful ornamental grass grows to a height of 14” and can spread out slightly wider. The arching yellow leaf blades feature alternating light green stripes. In full sun conditions the leaves loose their yellow color and fade to a creamy white shade. In the fall the leaves can take on a pinkish cast as the days shorten.

  Adaptation:
Hakone grass prefers moist rich, compost amended garden soil that is well drained. During the growing season the plants will require little attention. In the late winter the spent top growth should be cut flush to the ground. Mature clumps can be further propagated by dividing them with a shovel.

  Pests:
None reported.
