Description Red Hot Poker is valued for its 8” spikes of tubular flowers which make great cut flowers for bouquets.

  Morphology:
This upright, clump forming perennial can easily grow to a height of 4’ on better sites. From a basal tuft of coarse, sword shaped linear leaves a series of thick, naked flower scapes emerge. This in turn gives rise to a dense terminal torch-like flower raceme featuring drooping, tubular flowers of various shades of red, yellow and orange.

  Adaptation:
Red Hot Poker does best in dry to medium well-drained soils in full sun. It is considered intolerant of wet, heavy soils during the winter. With its long tap root it is considered drought tolerant.

  Pests:
None reported.
