Description In the landscape this juniper cultivar is widely known for its striking grey foliage and adaptability under adverse conditions.

  Morphology:
The cultivar ‘Plumosa Compacta’ forms a dense short stature evergreen ground cover that grows to a height of 1’-2’ and a width of 8’-10’. It has the unusual feature of having both scale-like adult foliage, but also awl-like juvenile foliage. The younger foliage is long and flexible thus helping this species to spread out. During the summer months the foliage is grey green.

  Adaptation:
This juniper variant is useful for controlling erosion on slopes, as well as providing a dense general use evergreen groundcover that can serve as a drought tolerant lawn alternative. Where conditions are hot and dry, this cultivar should be considered.

  Pests
Considered largely pest free.
