Description The cultivar ‘Viridis’ is a beautiful green lace-leaf Japanese maple forming a mounding shape. Gardeners often plant this cultivar as a compliment to the red-leaved ‘Crimson Queen’ cultivar.

  Morphology:
This Japanese maple variant grows to an eventual height and width of 10’ by 10’, forming a cascading mound shape. It bears bright green leaves 2”-3.5” long, divided into 7-10 lobes, each multi-dissected and extremely narrow with deeply cut side separations. Fall coloration is classified as golden-yellow with tints of red.

  Adaptation:
As with other Japanese maple cultivars ‘Viridis’ prefers moist, well-drained soil. In order to avoid sun damage to the foliage it is advisable to give this cultivar some afternoon shade.

  Pests:
Verticillim wilt (caused by the pathogen Verticillium dahliae) can be avoided by selecting a well-drained site. Bacterial canker (caused by Pseudomonas syringe) can be avoided by planting this cultivar on a site that receives good air circulation.
