Description A striking decorative spruce noted for its wonderful form and brilliant yellow color.

  Morphology:
After 10 years of growth this spruce variant may only attain a height and width of 10’ by 4’ in a narrow columnar shape. Ultimately it can reach to a mature height of 35’ and width of 13’.

The new candles are chartreuse-yellow. The densely arranged, stiff needles retain their golden color all year round, contrasting well with the greener needles in the shaded interior of the tree.

The limbs are largely horizontal.

In the spring carmine-red flowers (which look like strawberries) form, which morph to reddish-purple cones that turn brown as they mature.

  Adaptation:
Skyland’s spruce prefers acidic soils, with a good a layer of mulch to keep the roots cool during the summer. Young trees need some sun protection.

  Pests:
None reported.
