Description Truly a remarkable accent conifer known for its tall (25’ to 45’), but still narrow (3’ to 4’ wide) ‘dinosaurs’ appearance.

  Morphology:
Forming a dense narrow pillar, this redwood species bears short, pendulous branches, with a mane-like, sculptured habit. The main trunk grows predominantly upright, occasionally dipping, and then growing upright again. In addition side branches will also adopt this up and down growth habit. As with other redwood species this cultivar has the well known wonderful, thick, reddish-brown spongy bark.

  Adaptation:
Widely grown all through the western slopes of the Cascades, this redwood prefers moist acidic soils, warm summers, and cool winters. Where space allows, plant it in groups of two or more for a striking grove of ‘ghosts’.

  Pests:
None.
