Description This unique garden conifer is best known in the landscape trade for developing new foliage in the spring which is pure white in color, in contrast to the darker green interior needles, hence the name Summer Snow.

  Morphology:
This Canadian hemlock cultivar grows to a height of 6'-8' in 10 years, with a width of 4'-5'. Under ideal conditions it will grow taller and wider. Planting it in partial shade will keep it from getting much larger. Needles are arranged in 2 ranks, and slightly tapered.

  Adaptation:
As Summer Snow hemlock likes some shade it can be used as an under-story plant beneath taller trees. It does best on well drained acidic sites under cooler conditions. It would do poorly on hot sites.

  Pests:
Woolly adelgid has been reported on the East Coast of the United States.
