Description This west coast native shrub is best known for its 5” long lilac-like, cream colored flower clusters which drape over the outside of this deciduous native shrub. The profusion of flowers lends towards its alternative name of creambush.

  Morphology:
Oceanspray is a deciduous shrub which can grow to a height of 10’-15’, with an equal width, hosting slender arching to erect stems. Twigs slightly ribbed when young, pith large, white. Leaves are simple and alternately arranged. They are up to 4” long with shallow toothed edges or lobes. During the summer the leaves are grayish green in color.

Flowers are present from June through August. They consist of soft, creamy white, clusters (20 cm long) which hang down from the tip of the branches. They have a pleasing fragrance from a distance.

  Adaptation:
This species does best in partial shade, but tolerates most soil types. Corrective pruning will keep it in shape.

  Pests:
None reported.
