Description With its narrow columnar shape, Purple Fountain Beech would make an excellent specimen tree for the smaller urban garden where color is desired.

  Morphology:
Purple Fountain Beech is a deciduous tree with a columnar and cascading shape. At maturity it can reach a height of 25’ but still only spread to 15’. It bears alternate, simple leaves which are 2”-4” long, with wavy margins. The leaves start out the summer with a nice purple color, though the intensity fades as the summer progresses. It is slow to leaf out in the spring.

This cultivar is a sport of the larger Pendula Weeping Beech.

  Adaptation:
For the best color formation plant this species in full sun. It likes a well drained site but is forgiving. Once established it is considered to be drought tolerant.

  Pests:
None reported.
