Description Bluest of all the available Colorado Blue Spruce cultivars, ‘Hoopsii’ grows slowly to make a bold statement in a garden of greens and reds.

  Morphology:
This evergreen conifer is widely sold in the nursery trade for its tall specimen shape attaining a height of 20’-30’, but only 5’ in diameter. This makes it suitable as a tree for the smaller lot. Needles are four sided, and 0.75” to 1.25” long. They are thick in cross section and silvery-blue in color.

  Adaptation:
This tree should only be grown in full sunlight. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist growing conditions. It thrives on organic, moist soils. It will not tolerate standing water. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.

  Pests:
Generally spruce are disease and insect resistant, but some years can bring infestations of white pine weevil or Cooley spruce gall.
