Description Barren Strawberry derives its name from its strawberry like characteristics without the formation of berries.

  Morphology:
Barren Strawberry is classified as an evergreen groundcover attaining a height of 6” with a spread of 48”or more. The foliage resembles that of garden strawberry. They are wedge-shaped and turn bronze in the fall.

Yellow flowers appear in the spring. Once again these resemble those of the cultivated garden strawberry. No fruit forms however.

  Adaptation:
They tolerate dry soil well and colonize banks and along woodland paths and between stepping stones in light shade or sun. They spread by runners and can cover a space relatively quickly. Some gardeners may consider them invasive.

  Pests:
None reported.
