Description This wildflower is named for its leaves that resemble hemp. It is very popular in England where it is considered a native.

  Morphology:
This is an herbaceous perennial that can grow to 4’ in height and 1’ in width. Stems are hollow on this plant and reddish in color. When they are cut they give off a very pleasing aromatic odor.
Flowers emerge in late summer. Individual dark pink to reddish flowers are tubular florets grouped into panicles, creating a large flower head. Honey bees are highly attracted to the flowers, as are butterflies.

  Adaptation:
Prefers damp grassland and marshes, sometimes occurring in a wet woodland.
