Description A selection of Engelmann spruce that develops a strong central leader with pendulous branches which in time create a gray-blue skirt around the base of the tree.

  Morphology:
Engelmann spruce features slender, linear needles, an inch long, which are sharp to the touch, and tend to point forward. Cones are 1”-3” long. The bark is grey to russet-brown.

  Adaptation:
Well adapted to the moist, acidic sites west of the Cascades Mountain range. Will do poorly on very dry soils. A striking accent conifer for smaller yards.

  Pests:
Better pest tolerance to spruce spider mites than other Picea species.
