Description During the late spring the Beautybush shrub erupts into a profusion of bell-shaped, pale to deep pink flowers which seem to completely cover this foundation shrub.

  Morphology:
This is a large deciduous shrub that typically grows to 10’ in both height and width at maturity. It has an upright arching habit forming a fountain shape. The foliage is set in an opposite leaf arrangement with dark green leaves which grow to 3” in length. They are classified as having a ovate shape and sharp tip. The summer color is dark green which is a nice contrast set against other plants.

Flowering begins in May and extends into June. Blossoms are borne in clusters along the stems. Upon close examination the flower has a yellow throat.

The stems are interesting in that with age the bark peels and eventually exfoliates.

  Adaptation:
The plant is widely adapted to most sites. It can tolerate light shade.

Regular pruning, especially of the lower crown will help keep it from becoming leggy.

  Pests:
Pest free in the Northwest.
