Description The Japanese Maple lover will find the mottled green and white leaves on the cultivar 'Ukigumo' most fascinating. It it aslo referred to as Floating Clouds Japanese maple.

  Morphology:
While this a deciduous tree it does not attain the mature size of the typical Palmatum Japanese Maple cultivars such as Bloodgood or Emporer 1. When fully grown this cultivar may only reach to 10’ with a width of 8’. It has a horizontal branching habit which makes for an interesting appearance during the dormant season. The variegated leaves are white and green with some pink. In the fall the leaves turn pink and then red before they are shed for the season.

  Adaptation:
For this cultivar find a shady site where some sun is found in the morning followed by afternoon shade to keep the leaves from burning. Under dry conditions one could benefit from wetting down the soil around this tree once per week during the summer.

  Pests:
Generally considered pest free.
