Description The rich black-purple-red tones of this cultivar are like the popular 'Bloodgood’ but over-all the trre shape is more refined and airy.

  Morphology:
This is a deciduous tree that grows to 20’ in height and 15’ in width. When it is young it grows very quckly in an upright fashion. In the spring leaves emerge nearly black. During the summer the leaves are dark purple. In the fall they turn a scarlet color before they are shed. The leaves have sharp points as with other upright Palmatum cultivars.

The name ‘Nuresagi’ is Japanese for “wet heron” which describes the buds of this tree as it leafs out in the spring.

Very nice white striations also appear on the bark of older wood

  Morphology:
This cultivar prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil.

  Pests:
Does not seem to suffer either bacterial canker or root rot, both somewhat common in the Northwest.
