Description Weeping Canadian Hemlock lives up to its name as it seems to cover wide expanses with soft green foliage hanging from drooping branches.

  Morphology:
This a low growing conifer that attains a height of 4’-5’ but can spread to 8’-10’. It can be kept lower with pruning if so desired. There are also reports of taller plants. These have bee staked when young so they grow higher.

Flat, dark green needles to 1/2" long with two whitish bands of stomata underneath.

Mature plants will set cones which resemble small thimbles which are 3/4” long..

  Adaptation:
This is shade loving plant which needs partial to full shade. Needles can brown if they receive too much sun. It likes acidic sites

  Pests:
On the west coast this hemlock does fine. Woolly adelgid is reported to be problem in the Northeast.
