Description During the summer ther bright red pea like flowers of the French Honeysuckle seem to glow when it starts blooming in early summer. They are fragrant as well, attracting butterflies.

  Morphology:
This is a herbaceous perennial which grows to 3’ in both height and width. Leaflets are odd-pinnate and form in compound leaves (7-15 individual leaflets).

Flowering begins in June and can extend into July. Flowers consist of 1-35 florets.

  Adaptation:
This plant loves the cooler conditions as found in the Pacific Northwest. In hotter climates the foliage will die down faster in the latter part of the summer. Find a sunny site, preferably one that is alkaline.

Flowers fade to upright seed pods that are yellow and later brown. They hang on the spent foliage during the winter.
