Description Of all the different golden cultivars of Leyland Cypress the Dutch cultivar Gold Nugget has bright golden foliage all year long. It is also known for its pyramidal habit retaining a fairly narrow shape.

  Morphology:
This is a fast growing conifer that can attain a height of 30 feet but stays less than 10’ in width. The leaves scale-like, opposite leaf pairs alternating.

Leyland Cypress resulted from a cross of Monerey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) and Alaska Cedar (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis.

  Adaptation:
While this plant can be raised a signature single specimen, it could also be grouped together to form a hedge. Some gardeners will also clump it together and form a narrow hedge. The best color will forming full sun but it can take some shade. It does best in areas with cool moist winters and dry summers.
