Description Northwest gardeners who would like to bring the forest sub alpine fir into their garden should seek out Blue Rocky Mountain Fir as it will do well at the lower elevations.

  Morphology:
This is a dwarf conifer that will put on 2” of new growth per year until it reaches a maximum height of 6’ after 10 years of growth. It will form a slightly rounded to conical shape with age. The needle growth is soft to the touch.

The bark has a distinctive gray white color.

Due to its slow growth rate this cultivar could be used for bonsai.

  Adaptation:
Look for a well drained mineral soil for this specimen plant. It would look great in rock garden.

  Pests:
None reported.
