Description While Stoke’s Aster is normally associated with Gulf States it can be grown in the Northwest.

  Morphology:
This an herbaceous perennial which features a basal flush of evergreen lancelate leaves (green in color) that send up 1’-2’ tall flower stalks that each bear 1-4 cornflower like blue, rose, or white colored flowers. Pinch off the fading flowers in order to encourage new ones to form.

Flowering takes place in late spring. With care the flowering can be extended into late summer. The butterflies find the flowers attractive.

  Adaptation:
Place this perennial in a sunny location on an acidic soil.

  Pests:
Nothing in the literature reports to any pest problems.
