Description Red Barrenwort is a beautiful red edged perennial for the shady garden.

  Morphology:
This a herbaceous ground cover that can grow to 20” in height and spread out to 24”. It features heart shaped leaves which are semi-evergreen.

The flowers have rose red sepals and creamy white, short spurred petals. They don’t set seed as the flowers are sterile.

This relatively recent selection was bred by Darrell Probst for Garden Vision Nursery in Massachusetts.

  Adaptation:
The best location for Red Barrenwort is one of partial shade with a healthy dose of added humus and excellent soil drainage.
