Description Ural Spirea is a cultivar that does not have the invasive characteristic of the parent False Spirea, making it much improved variant for the home gardener.

  Morphology:
This deciduous shrub can grow to between 4’-5” and as wide. It bears alternate, pinnately compound leaves which are 8” to 12” long, with 13 to 25 leaflets. They have a pinkish red color in the spring as they un-fold. Each leaflet is ¾” wide with serrated edges. All told the shape for this plant is described as rather coarse textured. It will form large masses of arching branches
Billowy white sprays of flowers appear in mid- to late summer. They resemble those of astilbe.

  Adaptation:
Once established this plant will send out root suckers that can contribute to its spread. It does not matter what soil type is planted on. If it gets out of bound simply cut it back to the ground line.

  Pests:
None.
