Description The cultivar of Bugbane known as Black Negligee drives it name form the deeply cut blue-black leaves which have a lacy effect.

  Morphology:
This is an herbaceous perennial that grows to 2’ in height and width. The leaves start out emerald green in the spring but morph to an amazing dark purple (or darker) as the summer progresses.
Bottle brush like flowers are born on the tips of tall spikes from July through September. Butterflies are attracted to the nectar of the flowers.

  Adaptation:
For the gardener with a wet site or pond bank Snakeroot makes an excellent choice. It likes partial shade to full shade.
