Description
As opposed to its parent tree which forms a huge, stately coastal evergreen, the dwarf version known as Kelly’s Prostate Coast Redwood becomes a mounding groundcover with deep-green foliage. It is a joy to show off this dwarf version of what is normally a giant.
Morphology
:
Leaves mostly needle-like, flat, 2-ranked, and on half inch long. New growth is a beautiful emerald green. A mature plant attains a width of 4’ but does not exceed 8” in height. This is classified as a slow growing dwarf evergreen that only puts on 6” of new growth per year.
Morphology
:
This species prefers sun to partial shade in a well-drained soil. Supplemental irrigation during the summer keeps it from browning.
Pests
:
None reported.
