Description Generally regarded as the most sun-hardy of all rhododendrons, Jean Marie Rhododendron is noted for its fantastically large trusses of deep red, trumpet shaped flowers.

  Morphology:
This evergreen shrub grows to a height and width of 5' tall, 6' wide respectively. The limbs bear elliptic shaped leathery leaves which are 8” long and 2” wide, with a noted upward fold.

The flowers are formed in trusses and appear in mid-May. They can last for up to the 2 weeks.

  Adaptation:
While this species can survive full sun it does best in partial shade. As with all rhododendrons it prefers moist, well-drained acidic soils.

  Pests:
Root rot can be avoided by planting this species on well drained soils. Root weevels don’t seem to be problem on this plant.
