Description Goshiki Holly Osmanthus is sold as a foundation plant for its spiny, holly-like leaves and fragrant fall flowers.

  Morphology:
This evergreen shrub grows to a height of 5’ and a width of 4’ in the shape of a dense, upright, oval to rounded shrub. Leaves are arranged in an opposite fashion, are simple and leathery. New leaf growth is pinkish bronze, while mature leaves have a mixture of green, gold and cream areas. They are 1”- 2.5" long and spiny pointed.

Small white flowers form in the fall. Occasionally bluish purple-black drupes will form.

  Adaptation:
Holly Osmanthus does best in sun to partial shade and prefers fertile, moist, well-drained, acidic soil. It is drought and heat tolerant and can be severely pruned. If a screen is desired set out plants 4’ on center and shape appropriately.

  Pests:
None reported.
