Description A drought tolerant maple from the eastern Mediterranean.

  Morphology:
This is a decidous garden tree that grows to 20’ in height and 10’ in width. It bears leaves which are 3-lobed. They have a distinctive leathery feel and dark green color. On the branches they are set in an opposite fashion. Under mild conditions the leaves can be retained over-winter.

Light yellow flowers form in the spring, appearing as upright clusters. These morph to the characteristic samara fruit which flutter down from the branches as little helicopters.

The bark is dark gray and matures to a scaly texture with fissures.

  Adaptation:
For sun to part shade in lean soil with little summer water necessary once established.

  Pests:
None reported.
