Description This Japanese Black Pine certainly stands out in the field of golden conifers.

  Morphology:
This is a slow-growing evergreen conifer which grows to 5’ in height and 3’ across. It features a broad-upright form. Needles are a rich golden color, and must be grown in sun for color. Ogon is "gold" in Japanese.

The literature reports that this cultivar could grow even larger. It is advisable to consider pruning this one during candle elongation in the spring to keep it from getting too big.
Black Pine is grown extensively on the east Coast where it is considered to be salt tolerant.

  Adaptation:
Prefers full sun in well-drained soil.

  Pests:
None reported on the West Coast.
